Who is Luis Lopez?
Luis Fernando Lopez is the hero of The Ballad of Gay Tony, the second and final episode for Grand Theft Auto IV. He grew up in Northwood, a neighbourhood of Algonquin in Liberty City, and is of Dominican descent. The GTA Wiki says his father left the family when Luis was young, and that he has an older brother and a younger sister.
Luis once dealt drugs. His life changed when he met Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince, a nightclub owner. Tony became his employer, his business partner and his best friend. Luis works as Tony's bodyguard, as a bouncer at his clubs and as a driver for VIP guests.
Luis is the calm half of the pair. Tony takes risks and borrows money. Luis keeps having to fix the damage.
Story of The Ballad of Gay Tony
The episode begins in 2008. Tony is deep in debt to the Ancelotti crime family and to the loan shark Mori Kibbutz, and his two clubs, Maisonette 9 and Hercules, are struggling. To keep them afloat, Luis has to work for the people Tony owes, including Mori and the mobster Rocco Pelosi.
Luis also helps his old friends Armando and Henrique with their drug deals. He finds a wild new patron in Yusuf Amir, an Emirati property developer who wants to buy Tony's clubs. For Yusuf, Luis steals an attack helicopter, an armoured vehicle and even a subway train.
The plot ties into the diamond story shared by all three GTA IV chapters. Luis intercepts a diamond deal and later helps Tony rescue Gracie Ancelotti. The Russian crime boss Ray Bulgarin offers to clear Tony's debts, then double-crosses them and takes the diamonds. Luis wrecks Bulgarin's drug business and, with Yusuf's help, kills him on board his private jet before escaping by parachute.
Near the end, Rocco pressures Luis to kill Tony. Luis thinks about it but refuses, and he defends Tony and Maisonette 9 instead. The episode ends with the two friends reopening their clubs and turning down Yusuf's offer to buy them.
Luis in GTA IV and The Lost and Damned
Luis appears in the main game as a supporting character. Wikipedia notes that he witnessed the Bank of Liberty robbery in 2008, the heist Niko Bellic takes part in. The GTA Wiki also places him in GTA IV's diamond missions, where he crosses paths with Niko and, in The Lost and Damned, with Johnny Klebitz.
